Manual Lymphatic Drainage Technique

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) according to Vodder is a standardised hand technique for stimulating lymph drainage and shifting interstitial fluid. It uses gentle, circular pressure with defined pump, scoop, stationary and rotary techniques along the lymph pathways and lymph node regions.

Characteristic are low contact pressure, slow rhythmic movements and skin-moving contact without rubbing. Within complex decongestive therapy (CDT), the technique is typically combined with compression bandaging, skin care and exercise therapy.
