The Bobath concept is a neurophysiological examination and treatment concept for people with disorders of the central nervous system, for example after a stroke, with multiple sclerosis or with cerebral palsy. It was developed by Berta and Karel Bobath in the 1940s and has been refined ever since.
Its focus is on promoting postural and movement control, facilitating physiological movement patterns and integrating the affected side of the body into everyday life. Therapeutic handling, positioning, active exercises and everyday-oriented tasks are central components. Assessment and treatment are closely aligned with the individual's movement behaviour.
