Eversion describes a combined movement of the foot in which the sole is turned outwards. It is composed of pronation of the rearfoot, abduction of the forefoot and slight dorsal extension.

Eversion takes place mainly in the lower ankle joint and is performed by the peroneal muscles (fibularis longus and brevis), among others. Well-functioning eversion is important for the lateral stability of the foot and protects the lateral ankle ligaments from excessive inversion load. Its counterpart is inversion.
