Inspection is a systematic visual assessment of the patient and, together with history taking and palpation, opens the physiotherapy assessment. It is usually performed in standing, during walking and in functional positions.
Assessed are, among other things, posture in the frontal, sagittal and transverse planes, axis alignment, muscle contours, shoulder and pelvic position, skin condition, swelling, scars, breathing movement and movement behaviour. Side-to-side comparison is important, as is matching the inspection findings with the later movement and functional findings.
