Supination describes an outward rotation. At the forearm, it means the rotation in which the palm faces upwards. Anatomically, the two forearm bones, radius and ulna, are arranged in parallel.
At the foot, supination describes a raising of the inner edge of the foot with simultaneous inward rotation. In the normal gait cycle, slight supination occurs at push-off. Pronounced supination (over- or hypersupination) can shift load to the outer edge of the foot. Its counterpart is pronation.
