Spinal mobilisation comprises manual techniques applied at low speed and with amplitude adapted to the range of motion at individual segments of the spine. It is part of manual therapy and frequently used in physiotherapy.
Typical techniques are segmental push and pull mobilisations, translations and gliding movements at the facet joints, as well as spine-adjacent techniques in sitting, prone or side-lying positions. In contrast to manipulation, mobilisation works without a high-velocity thrust. Indications, contraindications and safety aspects are checked individually during assessment.
