A shoulder dislocation is the complete displacement of the head of the humerus out of the socket of the shoulder joint. It is one of the most common dislocations of the musculoskeletal system.

It most frequently occurs as an anterior shoulder dislocation, more rarely in posterior or inferior forms. Clinically there is severe pain, a springy malposition and pronounced inability to move the shoulder. Reduction is performed by a physician. Accompanying injuries of the labrum (Bankart lesion), bone (Hill-Sachs defect), ligaments or nerves can occur.
