Vojta therapy is a neurophysiological treatment concept developed by the Czech paediatric neurologist Václav Vojta. It is based on the assumption that genetically anchored movement patterns (reflex locomotion) are stored in the central nervous system and can be activated through targeted stimuli.
In defined starting positions, complex movement patterns such as reflex creeping and reflex rolling are triggered by manual pressure at defined zones (e.g. trunk, shoulder, pelvis). The therapy is used for infants and children with movement disorders as well as for adults with neurological or orthopaedic conditions, and is complemented by a guided home exercise programme.
